Shipper Guide
New to working with a freight broker — or just want a refresher? This guide walks through how Skyline Transportation moves your freight from quote to delivery.
Step 1 — Request a Quote
Submit our online quote form, call (279) 300-3808, or email Sales@skylinetransp.com. We need: origin/destination zip, pickup date, equipment type (van, reefer, flatbed), commodity, weight, and any accessorials (liftgate, residential, inside delivery).
Step 2 — Get a Rate
We benchmark live spot rates against contract carriers and return a confirmed all-in rate, typically within 30 minutes during business hours. No surprise fuel surcharges or accessorial bait-and-switch.
Step 3 — Confirm & Tender
You sign the Rate Confirmation. We dispatch a vetted, FMCSA-authorized carrier with appropriate insurance and CSA scores. You receive carrier name, MC#, driver name, and truck/trailer numbers before pickup.
Step 4 — Track in Transit
We monitor pickup, in-transit milestones, and delivery via ELD/macropoint integration where available, plus driver check calls. You get proactive updates — we surface problems before they become claims.
Step 5 — Deliver & Bill
Signed BOL/POD is sent the same day. Invoices are issued Net 30, payable by ACH, check, or credit card.
Tips for Smooth Shipments
- Book early. Pickup notice of 48+ hours gets best rates and equipment availability.
- Be precise on weight and dimensions. Underestimates lead to reweighs, downtime, and accessorials.
- Specify hazmat correctly. Wrong UN# or class on the BOL is a federal violation.
- Communicate dock hours and appointment requirements upfront. Detention starts after the free time on your rate confirmation.
- Inspect before signing the POD. Note exceptions on the BOL — that’s your claim foundation.
